The Marshall Area Economic Development Alliance, Choose Marshall, held a ribbon cutting ceremony for Great Lakes Candy & Cones and welcomed their business to downtown Marshall. Great Lakes Candy & Cones is located at 127 West Michigan Avenue. New store owners, Josh DeWitt, Stacey Slaughter and Amanda DeWitt recently purchased Samar’s Candy & Cones in downtown Marshall. This is a new family affair, and owner Stacey Slaughter is excited to be a part of this new venture. “My grandpa owned Albion Pastry Company when I was young, so it’s been a dream of mine to open a small business since then. These last few months have shown me that dreams do come true!”
Great Lakes Candy & Cone offers over 100 types of bulk candy sold by the pound with a total of 350 sweet choices available in their store. Sweet treats include several favorite nostalgia candies and saltwater taffy, 14 different flavors of Jelly Bellys, Pez candy, sugar and sour gummies, Starbursts, chocolates, and sugar-free candy. Other sweet indulgences include 36 flavors of Hershey’s ice cream, including vegan and dairy-free choices, milkshakes, Sprecher sodas and Dippin’ Dots. Owner Amanda DeWitt mentioned their top sellers are gummies, root beer barrels, buckeyes, and chocolate-covered coffee beans. They are happy to put together fun and colorful custom gift baskets, bouquets, and goody bags, and they have many great ideas to offer for Valentine’ Day, birthdays, and classroom or office parties.
Stacey commented on the store’s future plans, “We’re looking forward to expanding our inventory and listening to suggestions from our customers. We plan to add seating, and perhaps some food items, such as nachos, slushies and hotdogs”. She added, “Soon we will offer on-line ordering and shipping, but currently you may place an order for pick-up by messaging us on Facebook @GreatLakesCandyCones, calling 269-967-7855 or emailing at [email protected].” The store is open Tuesday through Saturday 11am-7:30pm and happily accepts Marshall Bucks.
