The Marshall Area Economic Development Alliance (MAEDA)/Choose Marshall held a ribbon cutting ceremony to welcome True North Ice Cream as a new Choose Marshall chamber member.
Store owner, Vaughn Frentz, and his wife, Amy Frentz, opened True North Ice Cream in May 2021. Since its opening just over a year ago, they haven’t slowed down one bit. They have stayed true to what they do, and business remains strong. They love being a part of the Marshall community. Vaughn commented, “We are Marshall’s Ice Cream store. We don’t just sell ice cream; we are selling the community of Marshall.” He added, “When I opened this business, I knew I could make delicious ice cream, and I knew I could make people happy.”
True North continues to sell over 30 homemade hand-scooped ice cream flavors, including dairy-free and sorbets and adult flavors as well. They also offer soft-serve ice cream. All recipes are non-GMO and are free of added dyes, hormones, and stabilizers. In addition to cups and cones of ice cream, True North offers smoothies, malts, sundaes, shakes and serves coffee, espresso, cappuccino, and frappes. After partnering with Blossom & Sons Roasters of Marshall, True North now serves and sells its own coffee “Grande Mountain”. Which is a blend of Brazilian/Costa Rican beans that is specially roasted to their specifications. Or treat yourself to an affogato, a classic Italian dessert, served with vanilla bean ice cream (or substitute any flavor) with a shot of espresso. Customers may also purchase to-go whole or ground coffee in bag, waffle chips in a bag and Bakewell quiches. Give the shop at least a 1-day notice and an ice cream pie with a Graham cracker or Oreo cookie crust can be made with any flavor ice cream. The perfect dessert for any occasion.
To add some fresh excitement to shop purchases, they have added a rewards card program. With each visit, receive a stamp. After 10 visits, take a spin on the prize wheel. Prizes available range from a free bottle of water to free ice cream for ONE year. Frentz mentioned, “I hope to have 1000 spins a month. I don’t know of any other competitor who gives anything away.” He recently renovated the building and added more picnic tables for guests to enjoy ice cream treats outdoors, with seating for 80.
