The Choose Marshall Chamber recently welcomed Samar’s Candy & Cones as a new chamber member. Brandi Hudson opened the storefront in July 2020.
“I had worked for years as a nurse, most recently in the emergency room at Henry Ford Allegiance in Jackson. But I’ve always wanted to open my own business. When our family was planning to move from Allen Park, we discovered Marshall and really liked the charming downtown. When this space became available things just fell into place and we decided this was the right time,” said Hudson.
While starting a business during the pandemic came with challenges, Hudson says she’s been very pleased with the foot traffic in her store and its growing popularity. “Of course, things were a slower over the winter, but when it started to warm up and things opened more, we’ve gotten a lot busier.”
Named for one of Hudson’s daughters, Samar’s offers over 100 types of bulk candy sold by the pound. Sweet treats include chocolate-covered pretzels and nuts, numerous flavors of salt water taffy, and fruity favorites like gummies and Starburst. Other indulgences include freshly popped popcorn, 36 flavors of Hershey’s ice cream, including vegan and dairy-free choices; Dippin’ Dots; Sprecher’s craft sodas; and fresh-squeezed lemonade. Custom gift baskets and pinatas filled with whatever you choose also are available.
“We’re looking forward to expanding our inventory even more and want to hear suggestions from our customers,” Hudson said. She added, “We’re also happy to be part of the Chamber and being more involved in the downtown community.”
