Grand River Brewery plans Marshall grand opening September 29

The wait is finally over! After much anticipation, and a couple of weeks practicing and perfecting, Grand River Brewery, in the historic Cronin Building at 101 West Michigan Avenue, Marshall, will celebrate its grand opening Saturday, September 29.

“We’re thrilled to officially open our Marshall location,” said John Burtka, owner, Grand River Brewery. “The city has been great to work with, and everyone has been very welcoming so far. We all look forward to meeting more people and being involved in the community.”

The Marshall Area Economic Development Alliance (MAEDA) will host a ribbon cutting for Grand River Saturday morning at 10:30, after which the restaurant will be open at 11a.m. for its first lunch service. Adding to Saturday’s festivities is a beer tent on Jefferson Avenue, open from 4 – 10p.m., and the award-winning Jill Jack Band performing in the tent from 5 – 8p.m.

Employing about 40 people in Marshall, Burtka also operates Grand River Brewery in Jackson, Mich. In addition to brewing its own beers, Grand River produces its own wines, hard ciders, and other spirits. “Two Sisters,” a beer only available at the Marshall restaurant, pays tribute to Elizabeth and Virginia Cronin, who owned and operated the family’s department store in the building until 1974.

Beginning Monday, October 1, Grand River Brewery’s regular hours will be 11a.m. – 10p.m. Monday through Thursday; 11a.m. – 11p.m. Friday and Saturday; 11a.m. – 9p.m. Sunday. A Saturday and Sunday brunch and Bloody Mary bar will be added to the Marshall site in the next few months, according to Burtka.

“It’s always exciting when a new business decides to locate in Marshall, and Grand River Brewery is no exception. It will be a tremendous addition to our vibrant downtown,” said Scott Fleming, CEO, MAEDA.
