Small Business Academy – Retail and Merchandising Trends

The public is invited to the thought provoking presentation on February 20, “Current Trends in Retail and Merchandising.” This event is sponsored by Marshall Area Economic Development Alliance and Chamber (MAEDA).

Nick Egelanian will discuss the current trends in merchandising, e-commerce, transportation, and other topics related to retail. “So much of the information read day-to-day is out of context, exaggerated or simply wrong,” states Nick. “I try to clarify the facts.” This presentation will explain the global market and how it relates to the challenges in our community. Groundbreaking research, findings and predictions that will alter the way you think about retail and the future of shopping will be presented.

Considered a leading expert on retail and shopping center industry, Nick A. Egelanian pioneered the segmentation of retail into Commodity and Specialty sub-groups as author of the retail chapter of the Urban Land Institute’s Professional Real Estate Development: The ULI Guide to the Business, 3rd Edition in 2012, used at Harvard Business School. As president of SiteWorks in Annapolis, Maryland, Nick has worked with clients including Starbucks, Justice, Lane Bryant, Balducci’s, Jos. A. Bank, Stuart Weitzman, and Zoes Kitchen. He is currently acting as the chief retail advisor to Sagamore Development Company that will house Under Armour’s new headquarters. He earned his Doctor of Law degree at the George Washington University National Law Center and a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from the University of Maryland.

This Small Business Academy presentation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on February 20 at the Marshall Public Services Building, 900 S.
