The Verona Loop Water Transmission Main is a 5.8 mile long, 20-inch diameter pipeline that begins at Verona Road and 11 Mile Road, connecting with the Emmett Township Loop Water Transmission Main.
It will extend along Verona Road to 15 Mile Road where it turns south to Michigan Avenue and then to the Marshall Facilities Site. The Water main will be installed by conventional open-cut methods with Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) utilized for crossing under I-94.
The new transmission main will supply up to 5 MGD of water from the City of Battle Creek to the Marshall Facilities Site augmenting water supply from the City of Marshall. The combined sources of municipal water will be stored in a Ground Storage Tank (Project 2) and pumped to the BlueOval project and future customers in the MAJOR campus and Marshall Township.
HDD is a trenchless method of installing underground utilities that causes minimal surface disruption. HDD minimizes the impact of construction activities on the local environment and surrounding community, including residents and businesses, and is commonly used to cross sensitive natural features such as rivers and streams or challenging obstacles like interstate highways.
