Magic Speaker Series: "The Ladies Auxilary" with Julie Eng

November 6, 2025 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Women in magic. Is it a title? A group? A label? A novelty? “Women in magic” has long been an enduring—yet still curiously undefined—catchphrase to use when describing an extraordinary and varied group of magicians within the greater magic community down through the ages. But as art and culture have evolved, expanding horizons and opportunities for all types of artists, perhaps now is finally the time to reframe how we talk about women in magic. Julie Eng, once a busy performer, now an even busier publisher, joins us to talk about, yes, women in magic, and how things have, or haven’t, changed.

About Our Speaker:

Julie Eng claims that magic chose her. Unlike many of her magic colleagues, she was born into the craft and grew up inside a very special family world of magic. For twenty years, she worked with the Canadian not-for-profit organization Magicana, working to advance the public’s awareness and appreciation of magic as an art. Then, last year, she left that post to become the new executive director of Genii Enterprises, LLC, where she continues her work through a variety of media projects to elevate the perception of magic in the public forum.
