The Marshall Area Economic Development Alliance (MAEDA)/Choose Marshall held a ribbon cutting to welcome and congratulate Kinderhaus Montessori as a new chamber member.

The Kinderhaus Montessori School in Marshall moved from the Trinity Episcopal Church to its present location in 2019 when it purchased the building previously owned by the Child Development Center (CDC).  After a complete building renovation and update, the school and childcare center now enrolls over 100 students.  Offering programming and care for infants, toddlers, and youngsters and preschoolers up to six years.  Kinderhaus is open Monday-Friday 7:30am – 5:30pm.  The school also offers KinderCamp, a summer camp for children 3-8 years of age.

Kinderhaus Montessori Director, Becky Samra, embraces the Montessori approach, an educational philosophy developed by Doctor Maria Montessori.  This approach offers students opportunities to develop in a safe and prepared environment. Students work independently and in small groups throughout the classroom and outdoors as they explore materials at their own pace.  This educational structure offers “freedom within limits.”  Samra stated, “Our students develop order, coordination, concentration, and independence as they work within the Montessori-based environment.  They also learn to solve problems, regulate emotions, and listen to others as they develop skills that will support them as they grow into adulthood.”

Kinderhaus staff values the development of the whole child; physical, emotional, social, and cognitive. The staff models safe and kind behavior while guiding students to make respectful choices and build positive relationships.  The staff is committed to fostering independence in a peaceful and caring environment that allows students to solve problems, take risks, and develop as individuals.

Samra commented, “We recently purchased five acres to add to our two existing acres.  We now have plenty of outdoor space with hiking trails, forest, and a revamped playground for our students to explore.”  She added, “We received a substantial grant from the State of Michigan and the Marshall Community Foundation and were able to improve our playground by adding a waterfall and other natural structures for the children to experience and enjoy.”

Kinderhaus Montessori is located at 701 North Linden Street in Marshall.  To learn more about the school visit kinderhausmontessorischool.org, call 269.781.4062 or follow on Facebook or Instagram.
