Choose Marshall Chamber Welcomes Uncommon Things!

The Marshall Area Economic Development Alliance (MAEDA)/Choose Marshall held a Ribbon Cutting and New Chamber Member Presentation to welcome Uncommon Things, a new boutique gift store, to downtown Marshall.
Store owners and cousins, Gail Michel, Kelly King and Deb Shubert, opened Uncommon Things, the day after Thanksgiving and closed after the holidays to completely reset and refresh their store with carefully curated vintage items and new merchandise.
When designing the store concept, the three cousins wanted to create a unique and distinctive space that speaks to their brand. Michel commented, “We want our customers to create an emotional memory when they shop in our store. We hope to inspire people to see how easy it is to mix vintage items with new merchandise and by doing so create a space that speaks to who they are!” She added, “Don’t be afraid to keep your treasured vintage items and display them with new products.”

Some of the distinctive items found at Uncommon Things are Peepers Readers and Sunglasses, stylish purses and wallets, vintage décor, amusing drink coasters, floral paint-by-numbers, costume, and new jewelry, throws, pillows and more! The trio plans to keep a vintage Christmas display cabinet year-round, and their back-room space will have a seasonal vibe. Some of their new products spread social good and support Michigan-based companies, such as Kalamazoo Candle Co and Old World Gardens.

King mentioned their plans for connecting with the Marshall community. “We hope in the future to host fun and interesting evening activities such as a bi-monthly book club or paint-by-number parties – stay tuned!”

Uncommon Things is located at 209 W. Michigan Ave in downtown Marshall. It is open Wednesday through Saturday 10am-5pm, and they plan to open on Sundays starting in May. Contact them at 269-425-0228 or on Facebook at or Instagram at
