In 2017 the Marshall Area Farmers’ Market provided an opportunity for area youth to learn about commerce, marketing, and profits by selling items they had made or grew. In the inaugural event, the young entrepreneurs set up booths with a variety of items they had made or grown to sell such as: flowers, produce, jewelry, homemade baked goods, crafts, artwork and pottery. Wanting to support these budding young entrepreneurs further, the Marshall Area Farmers Market has scheduled two Kid$ Market Days this year to be held on Saturday, June 9th and Saturday, July 14th from 8:00am to 1:00pm. Event chairperson, Kathy Miller, stated “Last year we had 24 very enthusiastic participants who were very successful in selling their products!” “By having two days this year, we hope to involve those from last year and also reach out to additional area youth to participate!”
Kid$ Market Days are open to area youth between the ages of 6 to 16 years old. Suggestions of items to sell; garden produce, annual plants, crafts, and artwork, Handmade items are allowed, as are baked goods made following Michigan Cottage Laws. The majority of items should be made in Michigan with a strong emphasis on Michigan products. Items not permitted are prepared foods (ready-to-eat items) and anything purchased from a manufacturer or company.
· Registration Fee per market day $5.00
· June 9th Market is due on May 26th or payment for both days can also be made
· July 14 Market is due June 30th
A parent or guardian signature is required on the Registration & Agreement Form. Kid$ Market Day fee(s) can be paid by cash or check and must be submitted with the registration form. The registration fee is non-refundable
Registration forms, set-up requirements and information for home-baked goods can be picked up at the Marshall Area Farmers Market on Saturdays during May from 8:00am to 1:00pm and returned either to the Market, by e-mail or mailed to Marshall Farmers Markets, Kid$ Market Day, City of Marshall Farmers, 323 W. Michigan Ave, Marshall, MI 49068. Prior to May 5th registration/forms can be requested by email from Kathy Miller ([email protected])
