MAEDA applauds Marshall Township leaders for new fire safety facilities, equipment
Marshall Township Board recently approved new fire truck, new station with facilities for training, equipment storage
The Marshall Area Economic Development Alliance (MAEDA) is applauding the Marshall Township Board of Trustees for its recent approval of vital fire safety resources to protect our community, including a new fire station and new fire truck.
MAEDA commends township trustees for their efforts to keep our community safe and be good stewards of taxpayer dollars with their unanimous approval of the station in March. The new facility will add training space for firefighters, create more bays for fire trucks and provide additional storage for life-saving equipment.
The Marshall Township Planning Commission approved the site plan for the station in May, keeping the development moving forward. State funds, not local tax dollars, will cover the costs of the New Fire Station 1, which will be located at 13550 15 Mile Road.
“As township board trustees, we are dedicated to keeping our community safe and being responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars,” said Dave Van Arman, township treasurer. “We will continue to make thoughtful investments in improvements to public safety facilities and resources that keep firefighters safe and allow them to respond quickly to emergencies.”
In April, Marshall Township trustees also showed their commitment to keeping our community safe by voting to replace Marshall Township Fire Department’s nearly 20-year-old fire truck with a new one that has updated technology and improved mechanical reliability, allowing the fire department to retain its certification.
“We are thrilled to have community partners in the Township Board who are dedicated to the safety and security of our community,” said James Durian, CEO of MAEDA. “New fire safety resources provide our families and neighbors an incredible sense of security and help to keep property values high.”
The new station is expected to be finished later this year or in early 2025. New fire station operations won’t leave the old building until the other one is ready for occupancy.
“We are looking forward to seeing progress on construction of a new station that will continue to provide our friends and neighbors with high-quality public safety services,” said Dan Walsh, Marshall Township Board trustee. “A new fire station with additional space for training and life-saving equipment is a win-win for our community.”
Marshall Township firefighters respond to an average of 400 calls per year. The new station will be located across the street from the current station, which will become part of the Marshall Area Jobs, Opportunities, and Recreation Campus (MAJOR), home to Ford’s BlueOval Battery Park Michigan and other future businesses.
“As a longtime volunteer firefighter and an EMT myself, I know firsthand the importance of keeping our firefighting resources up to date,” said Bob Lyng, a Marshall Township trustee. “This new location for Station 1 will allow our brave firefighters to maintain their quick response times across the township.”
