OERTHER’S Opens Walls and Hearts

Marshall Area Economic Development Alliance (MAEDA) recognized OERTHER’S Nursery and Feed for recent business updates with a We Noticed presentation April 11.

Pictured from left are MAEDA staff, Chamber Ambassadors and OERTHER’S staff Olivia Oerther, Sue Cato, Jenny Modert from Chemical Bank, Laura Crouse, store manager Margaret Oerther store manager, owner Kathleen Oerther, Jane Reid from MAEDA, Rebecca de Finta from MAEDA, Nancy Stulberg from Rosemary Davis REALTORS, Gretchen Peters, Joan Rapp from Schuler’s and Kierith Kurth from MAEDA.

Even after ten years of business, OERTHER’S continues to improve and evolve. The recent completion of renovations converted stock room space to retail space offering a larger pet center which offers food, treats, toys, leashes and collars for cats and dogs plus more bird supplies. The renovations unveiled more of the massive beams original to the grain elevator, adding to the warm, outdoorsy feel inside. Owner Kathleen Oerther expressed that “Much of the credit for the redesign and improved choices are due to our store manager Margaret Oerther.”

Leaving no stone unturned, the renovations continue outside. “We like to keep things fun by offering classes and ever changing, interactive courtyard themes,” stated Margaret. The back of the greenhouse, christened the “Backyard Oasis,” was updated; allowing for an even wider selection of annuals, perennials, and vegetable plants. One can find unique garden art throughout the store and a variety of pots in the “OERTHER’S Pottery Barn.” New expanded parking allows for easier and quicker store access.

Kathleen’s second business, Spruce Street Landscaping, has provided landscaping services and supplies for five years. Services range from clean-up, mulch, edging, bush trimming, soft-scapes, and weeding.

Still dedicated to providing the highest level of customer service, Kathleen strives for OERTHER’S to be the place “where everybody knows your name and customers become friends.” Besides personalized service to customers, Kathleen also believes in giving back to the community which is done through multiple fundraising events including; Pumpkin Something, Meatball Mania, The Incredible Bed Race and a new Mad Hatter Tea Party.
