Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Expansion: Project 3: Marshall Transmission Main

The Marshall Transmission Main is a 1.25-mile long, 16-inch diameter pipeline that will extend along Michigan Avenue

The Marshall Transmission Main is a 1.25-mile long, 16- inch diameter pipeline that begins at Winston Drive and extends along Michigan Avenue to the Marshall Facilities Site near 15 Mile Road.

The transmission main will be installed by conventional open-cut methods with Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) utilized for crossing under the I-69 Interchange and Bear Creek.

The new transmission main will supply water from the City of Marshall to the Marshall Facilities Site augmenting water supply from the City of Battle Creek. The combined sources of water will supply a 4.5 MG ground storage tank (Project #2).

Municipal water will then be pumped to the BlueOval facility and future customers in the MAJOR campus and Marshall Township by the high service pump station (Project #1). HDD is a trenchless method of installing underground utilities that causes minimal surface disruption.

HDD minimizes the impact of construction activities on the local environment and surrounding community, including residents and businesses, and is commonly used to cross sensitive natural features such as rivers and streams or challenging obstacles like interstate highways.
