Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Expansion: Project 4: Battle Creek/Emmett Township Water Transmission Main

The Battle Creek/Emmett Township Water Transmission Main is a 4-mile long, 20-inch diameter pipeline

The Battle Creek/Emmett Township Water Transmission Main is a 4-mile long, 20-inch diameter pipeline beginning at Ackerson Drive just east of FireKeepers Casino and extending along the south side of Michigan Avenue to the Marshall Facilities Site near 15 Mile Road.

The transmission main will be installed by conventional open-cut methods with Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) utilized for crossing under Pigeon Creek. Battle Creek and City of Marshall water will supply a 4.5 MG ground storage tank (Project #2).

Municipal water will then be pumped to the BlueOval facility and future customers in the MAJOR campus and Marshall Township by the high service pump station (Project #1). HDD is a trenchless method of installing underground utilities that causes minimal surface disruption.

HDD minimizes the impact of construction activities on the local environment and surrounding community, including residents and businesses, and is commonly used to cross sensitive natural features such as rivers and streams or challenging obstacles like interstate highways.
