Home Tour Origins
How the Historic Home Tour began.
In 1957, the Women’s Guild of the Trinity Episcopal Church started what is today referred to as the Marshall Historic Home Tour. Led by Isabel and Jan Brooks, the first tour included three remodeled homes and two new kitchens. These tours, which often included a fashion show, were held weekday afternoons in May. The tour was moved to October in 1961 and then to September in 1962 on a Saturday to accommodate women who worked. In 1964, Jan Brooks took over leadership and made the tour an annual September event that included the entire house. By 1968, the tour had become larger than the Guild could handle and handed the reigns over to The Marshall Historical Society. Today the Marshall Historical Society will be hosting its 57th Historic Home Tour September 7 and 8, 2024.
